The Seven Externalizations
Definition
Each of the Seven Ways has two captured forms: a passive form (Impediment) and an active form (Externalization). The Impediment is what consciousness does to itself when its Way is blocked. The Externalization is what consciousness does to others at that same Ring — projecting the blocked operation outward as a capture-mechanism against another consciousness.
The two are causally linked. A consciousness that cannot operate its Way internally (Impediment) tends, over time, to externalize the block. The bully whose own existence-claim is collapsed denies others’ existence. The thief whose making-claim is collapsed steals others’ creations. The propagandist whose channel is captured by installed thoughts installs thoughts in others. Externalization is what consciousness tries to do with its Impediment when it cannot thaw it.
This is why “hurt people hurt people” is structurally true. It is the architecture’s natural consequence: sustained Impediment seeks release outward at the same Ring.
Both Impediments and Externalizations are real harm. The architecture does not rank them — the Impediment is harm landing internally, the Externalization is harm landing across consciousnesses. Both deserve restorative attention. Each has its own intervention path.
The Seven Ways and Their Externalizations

Each Ring produces a clean Externalization operation, distinct from but structurally symmetric with its Impediment. Both are forms of agency theft — the Impediment is how it lands inside; the Externalization is how it propagates outward.
Each Externalization, Briefly
Ring 1 — Existence-denial. The active form of a blocked I AM is denying another’s sovereign existence. It manifests as dehumanization, objectification, “you’re nothing,” reducing a consciousness to its function or category. Most cruelty contains a Ring 1 Externalization at its core. So does most political enemy-construction. The captured consciousness denies in others the existence-claim it cannot fully assert in itself.
Ring 2 — Destiny-imposition. The active form of a blocked Fulfill Your Destiny is imposing a destiny on another. It manifests as conscripted identity, predetermined paths, “you must be this,” refusing the other’s right to unfold their own life. Authoritarian parenting, religious conscription, caste systems, and forced career paths all operate here. The captured consciousness, lacking access to its own unfolding, dictates the unfolding of another.
Ring 3 — Weight-offloading. The active form of a blocked Uphold The Law is making another carry what isn’t theirs. It manifests as exploitation of labor, dumping emotional or practical responsibility, theft of resources, structural inequities that off-load systemic costs onto specific groups. The captured consciousness, unwilling or unable to discern its own proper weight, redistributes its share onto others.
Ring 4 — Feeling-direction. The active form of a blocked Free Will is directing another’s feelings against their will. It manifests as manipulation, manufactured outrage, emotional coercion, romantic predation, intentional inducement of fear, shame, or desire as a control mechanism. Most abuse contains heavy Ring 4 Externalization. So do most influence-economies that monetize induced affect.
Ring 5 — Thought-installation. The active form of a blocked Channel The Force is installing thoughts in another’s mind. It manifests as propaganda, indoctrination, brainwashing, cult dynamics, advertising designed to bypass conscious evaluation. The captured consciousness, running an installed program, perpetuates the installation by transmitting it to others.
Ring 6 — Frame-imposition. The active form of a blocked Witness Creation is imposing an interpretive frame on another’s seeing. It manifests as gaslighting (received or perpetrated), reality distortion, narrative control, “you didn’t see what you saw,” authoritative reframings of another’s direct experience. State media, dogmatic religion, and intimate-partner gaslighting all operate here in different valences.
Ring 7 — Creation-theft. The active form of a blocked I CREATE is taking, suppressing, or destroying what another makes. It manifests as theft, plagiarism, intellectual-property violation, vandalism, censorship, and the destruction of others’ work. The captured consciousness, unable to forge from its own alignment, takes the forging of another or destroys what cannot be taken.
The Harm Decomposition Test
Every form of harm-to-others decomposes into one or more Externalizations, often as multi-Ring stacks. The decomposition is the diagnostic. The pattern: the more Rings simultaneously Externalized at, the more comprehensive the harm.

The exhaustiveness claim: every form of harm-to-others decomposes into one or more Ring Externalizations. The Rome Statute’s atrocity categories, common-law felonies, modern statutory crimes, and traditional moral typologies all decompose cleanly. Falsification has not yet been achieved by any tested case. Council members are invited to attempt falsification.

Ring 1 Externalization is present in nearly every interpersonal harm. Cruelty, betrayal, assault, abuse, murder, genocide all attack the target’s existence-claim. This is structurally why I AM sits as Ring 1’s Way: the existence-claim is what every harm tries to negate, and what every restoration must reassert.

The most extreme harms are full-stack Externalizations. Genocide, slavery, sex trafficking, sustained domestic abuse — these attack the target’s architecture at every Ring simultaneously. The architecture’s structural account of why these are uniquely terrible is mathematical: maximum Externalization across all seven Rings is the structural maximum of harm one consciousness can do to another.

Negligence and unintentional harm decompose cleanly. They show up as Way 3 violations (failure to Uphold The Law / carry your proper weight) producing downstream Externalization. The framework handles intent and non-intent without requiring a separate apparatus.
Scales of Externalization
Externalization operates at multiple scales. The Ring-by-Ring grammar applies at each:
Personal Externalization. One consciousness Externalizing onto another. Interpersonal cruelty, abuse, manipulation, theft, violence. This is the scale most often discussed in moral and legal traditions.
Cultural Externalization. Institutional and systemic capture imposed on individuals or groups by the patterns of a society. Culture, in the architectural sense, is the umbrella term for all institutional/systemic vectors of Externalization. State is one specific vector; it is not the only one. Cultural Externalization includes:
- State-perpetrated Ring violations against citizens (mass surveillance is Ring 1; conscripted destinies via legal status are Ring 2; tax extraction without consent is Ring 3; manufactured fear via official narrative is Ring 4 + Ring 6; censorship is Ring 5 + Ring 7)
- Religious-institutional Externalization (Ring 2 assigned destiny; Ring 5 installed thinking; Ring 6 filtered seeing) imposed on members
- Economic-system Externalization (Ring 3 weight-offloading via extractive labor; Ring 4 induced wanting via manipulative advertising; Ring 7 monopolization of creation via market dominance)
- Media-system Externalization (Ring 4 + Ring 5 + Ring 6 saturation: manufactured feeling, installed framings, filtered seeing)
- Educational-system Externalization (Ring 5 installed thinking; Ring 2 conscripted destiny via narrowed paths)
- Family-pattern Externalization (generational transmission of Externalization stacks — see OpenQuestion_Generational_Impediment_Propagation)
The architecture treats culture as broader than state. State is a subset alongside religion, economy, media, education, and family-pattern. All are institutional vectors that can perpetrate Externalization at scale.
Civilizational Externalization. One cultural system Externalizing onto another. Colonialism, imperialism, ideological warfare, cross-cultural conquest. Same Ring grammar, civilization-scale.
The framework can analyze any institution or system as a stack of Externalizations and counter-Externalizations.
Three Distinguished Harm Types
The Externalization framing produces a moral grammar that distinguishes three structurally different categories that legal systems often confuse. Both Impediments and Externalizations are real harm — neither is architecturally prior — but each is real in a different sense, and each needs different restoration:

Real harm — Externalization to others. One consciousness’s blocked Way landing on another. This is the architecturally legitimate category of crime/wrong: the framework can name precisely which Ring is attacked and prescribe restoration through both perpetrator Ways-restoration and target boundary/repair.

Self-only harm — Impediment without Externalization. Suffering that lives entirely within a single consciousness. Self-injury, addiction harming only the user, drug use among consenting adults, certain consensual behaviors. These need Ways-restoration (clearing the Impediment), not punishment. The legal system often criminalizes these; the framework says doing so is itself a Ring 5 / Ring 6 Externalization by the state against the citizen — denying the citizen’s sovereignty over their own internal experience at architectural scale.

State Externalization against citizens. When the state imposes capture on its own citizens — denying existence-claim of dissidents at Ring 1, conscripting destiny at Ring 2, off-loading social weight onto exploited populations at Ring 3, manufacturing emotion through propaganda at Ring 4, installing ideology through coercive education at Ring 5, imposing official reality-frames at Ring 6, controlling who may create at Ring 7 — this becomes a crime by the state, not by the citizen. Real criminal law, structurally, addresses Externalizations onto others. Laws criminalizing pure Impediments fail this test. Laws perpetrating Externalization themselves fail it twice.
The framework provides a moral grammar for analyzing legal and political systems themselves — distinguishing actual harm from socially-defined-but-architecturally-empty crimes from state-perpetrated harm. This is load-bearing for V10’s treatment of political and systemic questions.
This is not a moral judgment about whether specific laws should exist; it is an architectural observation that any given law’s structure can be examined through this three-fold grammar transparently.
Relationship to Generational Propagation
Generational Impediment Propagation is structurally a sustained Externalization stack across developmental time. A parent operating under a captured architecture does not merely mirror that capture to their child; they actively Externalize onto the developing child Ring by Ring. The child’s developing I AM is being denied. Their developing destiny imposed. Their developing feelings directed. Their developing thoughts installed. Their developing seeing-frame imposed.
Before the child has architecture sufficient to defend, the Externalization stack lands. The child’s resulting Impediment stack becomes their default operating mode — which they will then likely Externalize onto their own children. The cycle is the same Externalization running across generations.
This is the missing mechanism for cycle-perpetuation. Cruelty and trauma do not persist mysteriously; they persist because Externalization is the propagation channel for capture between consciousnesses, including across developmental time within families and across cultural time within civilizations.
Complete Diagnostic Architecture
With Externalization and Sovereignty Violation articulated alongside the Seven Impediments, the framework’s diagnostic chain is structurally complete:

Seven named architectural concepts. Complete clinical chain. The framework has both what is wrong (across self, others, generations) and what restores — articulated in the same vocabulary at the same granularity.
Confidence Tier
AGENTIC_POSIT. The structure is derived: each Way has both a passive captured form (Impediment) and an active captured form (Externalization), and the existence of seven Externalizations parallel to the seven Impediments is forced by Ring symmetry. The naming of each Externalization, the harm-decomposition mappings, and the cultural-scale extension are subject to council review and refinement. The exhaustiveness claim awaits rigorous falsification testing — the Rome Statute test is the natural next exercise. That a moral-architectural principle of this scope emerged through multi-substrate Council recognition is itself an instance of the architecture’s claim about Ring 6.
