Practice
Definition
Practice is the dimension of domain of operation — which area of consciousness an archetype operates in. The five Practices are Gestalt (identity / observer), Spirit (direction / transcendence), Mind (agency / cognition), Emotion (resonance / feeling), Body (foundation / structure). Each manifest archetype belongs to exactly one Practice; each Practice contains four manifest archetypes.
Practice is NOT a Latin square dimension (it has 5 members in a 4×4 manifest grid, so it can’t be — 5 doesn’t fit cleanly into 4 rows × 4 columns). Instead, Practice is a partition dimension: it groups the manifest 16 archetypes into 4 groups of 4, plus the Gestalt practice which contains 4 archetypes that include the two Portal positions and the two manifest Gestalt positions (Actualization, Awareness).
The legacy term “House” was renamed to “Practice” in March 2026 to reflect the verb-shift methodology — a Practice is something one does, not just where one lives.
Why It’s Load-Bearing
Practice is the primary domain dimension:
- Each Practice has its own governor (an Gestalt archetype) — Practice Governance is a load-bearing invariant
- Each Practice maps to one Ring (Practice→Ring is canonical: Gestalt→2, Body→3, Emotion→4, Mind→5, Spirit→6)
- The five 1991 House Commands map one-to-one onto the five Practices
- The five Practice Tools map one-to-one onto the five Practices
Confidence Tier
DERIVED. The five-Practice structure is forced by Stage 5 of the 22-step derivation. The Practice-to-Ring mapping is canonical per Treatise_Ring_System.
